If we follow Jesus or not, we all have a deep longing for peace. This video explains everything in such a simple and powerful way and it correlates very well with the Bible verse Ephesians 2.14 (AMP):
For He is [Himself] our peace (our bond of unity and harmony). He has made us both [Jew and Gentile] one [body], and has broken down (destroyed, abolished) the hostile dividing wall between us.
Jesus is our source that we can overcome cultural and racial barriers. Nevertheless we believe we actually do have a label on us when we follow Jesus. Find our answer at the end of this post.
What if we did not have any labels on us and we would not put labels on others?
It is so easy to have attitudes towards people. We have picked them up throughout our lives. Parents and friends make statements and without reflection we trust them. Our trust become beliefs and they become the basis for our actions. This movie will questions your value system.
What comes to your mind when I say police man or Islamic fighter? Probably some kind of picture in your mind appears. We have thoughts, opinions about bus drivers or politicians, about rich and poor people, about black, whites and Asians. We can call these thoughts opinions or attitudes and we are just full of them. We put labels on others and even on ourselves.
However we are often blinded by those labels and we do not recognize the true identity of people. We ARE NOT what we LOOK LIKE. Our length of our nose or the color of our hair does not say anything about us, about our values or our character. If we value people because of their looks we do injustice. We are not born with a value determined by our appearance!
We are missing out on discovering the incredible being which exists under the surface. It is both a lost opportunity on our part and an injustice against the other’s right to be recognized as a whole and complete person.
It reminds me of when I first moved to Toronto. I came from a very small town in Northern British Columbia (North Western Canada) where there is very little cultural diversity. When I moved here, I started working as a server at an Italian restaurant and was introduced to several Sri Lankan and Indian cooks in the kitchen. I remember thinking, I’ll never remember their names and I likely won’t have anything in common with them anyways. It wasn’t that I was racist, I just hadn’t been exposed to other races or cultures at all and assumed they were very different from me. As I got to know them, I realized how foolish this attitude was, and that the only thing separating us was our appearance.

When we judge someone based on his or her race we are subconsciously separating ourselves from them, because they are “different.”Because of this separation, based solely on labels, we wage war against one another. It’s ludicrous, and really calls to our attention the media’s influence in keeping us separated and placing hate and blame on many other races and religions.
When you realize that these are just labels, which society has given to each and every one of us, a profound shift occurs within. You begin to question the lines that divide us both psychologically and even physically, on our maps.
Could there be a reason why we (you and I) live in times like this? Could the crises we are facing today be hidden oppurtunities for you and me to make a difference in this world? Could remove some of those labels resulting in dividing walls between people which cause so much suffering?
“We were meant to be free and only until we remove them all, and stop living and thinking so small will we be free to see ourselves and each other for who we truly are.”

PS: We said that we believe we do have a label on us when we follow Jesus: “Children of God”. This label is our new identity in Christ. This – our new identity is stronger than any national or cultural identity or status. This is the unification in Jesus! We are happy to be family with you!!
